El Encuentro: A Gathering For Immigrants
In community, we have everything we need. That’s why Guillén Paz is hosting a special edition of El Encuentro. We need your voice to help us build it. We invite immigrants, their families, and their friends to join us for the pilot gathering designed as a proof of concept for a much larger neighborhood block party dedicated to celebration, mutual aid, and collective care for our immigrant community.
Think of this day as our test run. We are gathering at Maria Hernandez Park to lay the foundation for a space where neighbors can celebrate Latin American heritage, learn from one another, and stand in fierce solidarity against the injustices of ICE detentions. At this pilot event, you’ll hear from the founders of Guillén Paz, grassroots leaders, and survivors of detention. Trusted local non-profits and NGOs will also be on-site to offer various forms of support.
Because we believe that celebration is a form of accountability and defense, we’re providing limited free food and drinks, a live DJ, and a joyful space to truly get to know those of us that share the neighborhood. Everything we learn from this day will be used to collaboratively design a larger public-facing launch next year.
This event is for the community. It’s a place to gather and learn, but also a place to share resources. We will be raising money to help those affected by ICE enforcement.
